Who Is Dr. Morrison?

James Morrison, Ph.D., started his graduate studies at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), in 1995.  He earned his Master's of Arts in Community Clinical Psychology, with special emphasis in aggression and behavioral disorders.  Specialty practicum training included placement training as a school counselor.  Following that, Dr. Morrison earned his doctoral degree at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX, in 2001.  This Ph.D. emphasized school and clinical psychology, and utilized Behavioral and Cognitive psychology orientations.  During internship, Dr. Morrison practiced under licensed psychologists at specialized schools for developmentally disabled children, at a second site for behaviorally & emotionally disturbed teens, and at Harris County Detention Center for his third rotation.  After graduation, Dr. Morrison began working at the Department of Developmental Services, Porterville Developmental Center.  Dr. Morrison became a training director for the psychology internship program in 2005.  In 2007, he transferred to Ventura Youth Correctional Facility (VYCF), to start a new clinical psychology internship program, and has remained there ever since. In 2003, Dr. Morrison began teaching at Porterville City College, and classes taught included Introduction to Psychology, Substance Abuse, and Group Therapy Techniques.  In 2004, he opened his private practice to low-income families with serious, chronic mental health issues.  His second practice site opened in Oxnard, CA in 2008.  Dr. Morrison no longer teaches at Porterville City College, but most recently began teaching at La Verne University in Point Mugu, CA. 

During his employment with the State of Califnornia, the majority of Dr. Morrison's time involved the supervision and training of graduate students in psychology doctoral programs. Dr. Morrison stays current on the most recent, evidence-based psychological techniques, and abreast of new updates in the field of psychology.
